Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) is a public library system serving communities in the City of Vaughan. VPL consists of thirteen libraries and 1 express self-serve storefront that house a collection of more than 550,000 items and receives an average of 2.5 million visitors each year. VPL also hosts hundreds of programs and events on a yearly basis, catering to all demographics in Vaughan. From storytimes to hands-on STEAM activities, book clubs to author visits, social meetups to educational presentations, VPL offers programs for everyone.
MY ROLE: As the digital marketer, I actively work on VPL’s branding and all marketing materials, both in print and digital. Materials include in-branch signage and promotional materials for collections, programs and services.
Kitchen Traditions Cookbook
Sponsored by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors grant, Kitchen Traditions is a program in which VPL invited older adults in the community to share their culture through food! In this program, presenters were given the opportunity to share a dish from their cultural background and teach members of the community how to make it. Kitchen Traditions’ goal is to promote lifelong learning and inter-generational knowledge sharing while creating opportunities for older adults in and around Vaughan. This cookbook was printed and distributed across all VPL libraries, showcasing not only the recipes that were made during these sessions, but also the volunteer presenters who shared their knowledge and skill with us.
VPL’s Annual Report
The Annual Report is a yearly document released to the public that summarizes and showcases the library’s achievements and impact on the residents of Vaughan.
Out of Home Campaigns
These were a series of Out Of Home ad campaigns that were executed with the goal of increasing awareness of VPL’s presence in the community. These campaigns included ads for transit (YRT and GO Transit) and billboards along major intersections in Vaughan.
Teens Room Refresh
These decals were part of the refresh of the Teen rooms in both Civic Centre Resource Library and Pierre Berton Resource Library. These were added to reflect VPL’s current branding within the libraries as well as improve the look of these Teen spaces, signaling to youth in Vaughan that VPL is a welcoming environment for them to study, learn and hang out.
Cooking Connections
Cooking Connections is a series of hands-on workshops aimed at companies, organizations and associations. Groups of up to 20 people can choose from options like making sushi, pleating dumplings, and baking a host of cookies.
To launch this program, I created post cards that were sent to businesses in Vaughan and handed out at the Disrupt HR Conference, as well as a informational hand out.
